"Art is everywhere, except it has to pass through a creative mind."
- Louise Nevelson

Yellow is one of my worst enemies. As a painter some of my yellows have been good, some bad. For me, yellow can be sophisticated, obnoxious, nauseating. Painting in yellow challenges my maturity. I must be mature enough to admit that though I may not favor what a piece is becoming, the piece needs a particular yellow. People have different tastes from mine, a different bias. When a painting is screaming for it, I take a big step back, enabling me to live with what I consider a tacky or cheesy yellow. It is a real dialogue with my work. Transcending my own biases and accepting what the painting wants, accepting its history.
